10 Questions with Skin Strong Ambassador Ben

We met Ben just before he qualified for Ironman Kona, and are delighted to help him stay chafe free as he works towards Hawaii...!

1. How did you get into triathlons/running/adventure racing?

I got into triathlons as a way to lose weight and meet people - but after completing my first event I got addicted.  I've completed many races (3 x 70.3, 2 x Ironman), am a Level 1 triathlon coach and am studying Cert IV in Fitness to help me with my triathlon understanding!

2. What motivates you to get out of bed to train when it is early, dark and cold?

The knowledge that my competitors are out there, doing the same thing - if I don't get out there and do it I'll be one set down on them!

3. How do you balance training with family/work commitments?

With a LOT of planning and a very understanding family!

4. How do you fuel up for a race? Favourite breakfast to kick-start your day?

Very strict carbo loading strategy worked out with my nutritionist. I love weet-bix with yoghurt and banana with a VERY strong coffee...

5. Do you prepare a race plan/strategy at the start of the year?

Absolutely! I sit down with my coach and family to plan out exactly what races to aim for - including A, B and C races.

6. Best music to train to?

Depending on my mood - but anything from dubstep to hip hop!

7. Do you have a race day ritual?

I follow a checklist of what I have to do... Sad, I know!

8. Top 4 celebrities (alive or passed on) that you would invite to a dinner party?

Craig Alexander, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, and Jeffrey Archer... Now that would be an interesting dinner party!

9. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Easy... Flying!

10. How do you relax when not training/racing?

ie. Hobby Kicking it with Charlie, my sausage dog! I don't get a lot of down time - so miles become my meditation.
